Connecting Generations  /  Posted 07/07/10

By Nelly

We have so much to learn from the generations of women who were born before us..and from the generations of women after us! Recently at a "tea party" every decade of women were represented except one. It was the most delightful afternoon, sharing so many stories and now having so many memories. It was one of those 'spare of the moment' events that you pinch yourself once it is over. 16 females from the age of 18 months to 96 years of age were present. We borrowed 16 different sets of tea cups from my 91 year old aunt (tea cups that had not been out of the cupboard for years). Of course every cup had it's story as did every lady there. We talked about all the places the ladies had lived, where they had had been born and how they got here. It is amazing how every woman contributed something different and as a result, we all were enriched. Every Generation of Women is to be applauded for how they positively impact our world. This is a must for a yearly event!

What We Do For Fun  /  Posted 03/31/10

By Lynn

We treasure when families can get together. As we 'mature' we realize that no matter how similar or different we may be, we do cherish times together. On a recent week when my husband and his 2 sisters joined us for a visit, every evening we played a different game. We all looked forward to the games of Yahtzee, Ramoli, and card games--we even played Old Maid. We had a great laugh when we realized that we were missing a card--so there were 2 'old maids'. We finally figured it out when the last 2 kept drawing from each other and neither was getting a pair--OK so maybe we played after a couple of glasses of wine. Maybe we should call it 'old minds' since we may not be as sharp as we used to be. Cherished times and much laughter!! :)

Give us Strength-Give us Our Girlfriends  /  Posted 10/29/09

By jantess

Good news is even better when celebrated with friends, bad news is tolerable IF you share it with your friends. Don't keep it to yourself. As one friend reminded me, the more women you share bad news with, the more you have praying for you. We've experienced that 'fist in the gut' feeling and our hearts ache for our friend's bad news. At times like these, I'm reminded of that childhood game, "Red Rover". If we hold onto each other and never let go, no one or nothing can break us down. There is strength in the power of WOMEN!!!

You are so right. Strength in numbers. All news especially news that is hard to hear and handle is so important to share and be held by those that love us in good times and in badd.
Girlfriends are those people....Forsure

Passing on Family Values  /  Posted 10/20/09

By jantess

It is wonderful to observe how family values are passed on for generations. Most often it is something that happens when families come together for a purpose. Last week I sat in the breakfast lounge in a hotel where families were gathered after the Ak-Sar-Ben fundraiser. I watched many 4 generation families; talk, tell stories, eat and laugh. These events are so important for the young children. Without saying a word, the kids realize that their families have made significant contributions of time and money for scholarships and community projects, many have been honored for their unselfish volunteer efforts, others have contributed countless hours to make the events happen. It is often said that kids learn from parents by what they say and do vs. what they tell kids to do. Congrats to all the families that reach out to help others. You are positively influencing your children, in more ways than you know--most likely it is the small things that you do that have the biggest impact.. Read more

Can I Have this Dance for the Rest of my Life  /  Posted 10/14/09

By jantess

My husband & I had one of those fun nights this past weekend. A small local rodeo on a cool night, great entertainment with an older country singer, Johnny Lee, followed by a band that knew how to play music that you could dance to. One of my favorite songs that Johnny did was "Can I Have This Dance for the Rest of My Life". I love that song! Everyone typically starts to dance the slow waltz with their spouse and it reminds me that it was our first wedding dance song. Grab your special man and remind him how much he means to you...and turn on the 'jukebox' to dance to YOUR favorite song! What is your song and what memory does it bring back?
